About

Founded in 2023 as a project of the University Hospital Bonn, BOSTER is a competence centre for the ethical and moral design of the digital transformation in surgery in Germany and Europe.

BOSTER is a research, education and training centre as well as a showroom, event and community location. As a vibrant ecosystem with a diverse community of patients, users, teachers and learners, scientists, researchers and industry partners, BOSTER promotes projects and initiatives for the development and implementation of state-of-the-art digital surgical technologies. Key research areas are robotics, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

BOSTER is a hub for innovation, development and collaboration in surgery. The focus is on the goal of excellent patient care through technological development while simultaneously taking into account data security, sustainability and the efficient use of healthcare system resources as an ethical and moral framework. To this end, BOSTER is closely networked with highly qualified specialist expertise and advice from internationally recognised experts at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and other partners in various cross-sectional areas.

Through education, transparent communication and collaboration, the use of digital surgical technologies becomes more understandable for the public. This demystifies their use in the operating theatre, highlights the opportunities for improving medical care in Germany and promotes a trusting partnership between the healthcare sector and the public.
